Mattia Vacca

L’AUTORE Mattia Vacca, dalla cronaca alla ribalta internazionale della fotografia Mattia Vacca è nato a Como nel 1978 e vive e lavora tra Como e Milano. Nel 2003 si è laureato in Scienze della Comunicazione con specializzazione in Cinema e Giornalismo. Per due volte è stato selezionato per il Masterclass Film Studies and Documentary Filmmaking a Locarno. È fotografo del nostro giornale e ha pubblicato anche sul “Corriere della Sera”, “La Gazzetta dello Sport”, “The Guardian”, “The Telegraph”, “France Soir” e sui magazine “Sette” e “Sportweek”. Il suo lavoro ha ottenuto numerosi premi tra cui Sony World Photography Awards, New York Photo Awards, Renaissance Prize e Humanity Photo Awards dell’Unesco. Quest’anno è stato scelto insieme ad altri otto fotografi (su 1.000 candidati) per esporre all’Università di Cambridge durante il simposio “Human Flow”. L’OPERA Bella la vita perché è sporca e imperfetta Maurizio Pratelli LMattia Vacca, fotogiornalista comasco, negli ultimi anni ha inanellato una serie di prestigiosi premi e riconoscimenti. Il più recente lo scorso anno a Londra ai “Sony World Photography Awards”, dove S’Ardia, il suo lavoro sulla storica corsa di cavalli in Barbagia, ha ottenuto il secondo posto nella categoria “Arte e cultura”. Le stesse foto, a testimoniare il valore assoluto di questo progetto, avevano già conquistato nel 2011 gli “Unesco Humanity Photo Awards” di Pechino. E proprio l’Asia era stata meta di un suo toccante reportage, poi pubblicato sulle più importanti riviste internazioni di fotogiornalismo, sul tema delle scuole della Cina rurale. Il reportage su Srebrenica, in Bosnia, che ha raccolto una serie di scatti magistrali in bianco e nero, capaci di riportare intatte le immagini di un’immensa tragedia umana, lo ha portato nel 2012 alla finale dei “New York Photo Awards”, nella categoria “Documentari”. La qualità dei suoi lavori è figlia del suo stile istintivo: le foto di Mattia Vacca sono “sporche”. Tutto ciò che è perfetto non è vero, non è vivo; le opere di Vacca rappresentano la stupenda bellezza dell’imperfezione della realtà. Sapere cogliere l’attimo senza finzioni sceniche è una qualità che appartiene solo ai migliori fotogiornalisti, a quei professionisti che non possono permettersi il lusso di costruirsi un set prima di scattare. La sua macchina fotografica diventa così un testimone prezioso, così prezioso che, per due anni di fila, Mattia è stato selezionato tra i 100 talenti più promettenti al mondo dalla rivista di riferimento del settore: “Foto8”. Da due anni Mattia Vacca sta lavorando a un progetto sul celebre “Carnevale” di Schignano (in anteprima lo scatto a lato) con il quale, ancora una volta, è stato capace di riportare tutto quello che gli occhi di un comune osservatore non riescono a fermare.
